Your Map Is Ready: Testing, Training, and Next Steps

When you see “Your Map is Ready for Review,” your journey with the GoodMaps platform – Studio, Web, and App – begins. What follows is a two-week validation period for hands-on testing, map refinement, and stakeholder feedback that lays the foundation for an exceptional navigation experience at your venue.

Your Two-Week Validation Period #

With mapping complete, it’s time to validate everything. Use this period to:

  • Explore your venue using GoodMaps’ mobile app and interactive web map
  • Identify map and app refinements, big or small
  • Engage staff and key stakeholders for feedback and improvement

This validation window is about making the map truly yours, shaped by how people actually move through your venue.

Who Should Be Involved? #

Assign access promptly to a core review group – typically 2–3 people familiar with the project or venue. These team members will:

  • Receive Studio login invitations and reset passwords to get started
  • Serve as the main point of contact for map and wayfinding improvements
  • Lead the onsite and digital review process

To grant access to additional team members, provide their email addresses to the GoodMaps team.

GoodMaps Studio: Your Map Command Center #

GoodMaps Studio lets you manage and refine your map. You can:

  • View, search, and edit Points of Interest (POIs)
  • Update names, add tags, and write clear descriptions
  • Toggle features on or off (restaurants, elevators, etc.) so routing reflects real-time conditions
  • Manage multiple languages with the option to publish or remove as needed
  • Add extended descriptions like opening hours or menus directly to POIs

Studio cannot be used for:

  • Routing paths for temporary construction
  • Adding new POIs
  • Removing sections of a map

For these changes, submit a revision ticket.

How to Submit a Revision Ticket #

For construction, major floor layout changes, or new destinations, use the revision process:

  1. Take a screenshot of the area requiring updates (via Studio, Web, or the App)
  2. Mark the screenshot with the areas of change
  3. Include a clear description and timeline if relevant
  4. Email to mapping.revisions@goodmaps.com

Step-by-Step Venue Testing Guide #

  1. Prepare for Testing at Your Desk
Open GoodMaps Studio and review each floor systematically. Make initial changes to Points of Interest (POIs) as you examine the digital map.
  2. Test Routing in the Venue
Use the GoodMaps mobile app to test navigation area by area or floor by floor. Select points of interest and route to them, or check your GoodMaps web map for POI accuracy. Walk through key routes, entrances, and complex intersections, verifying that app directions are correct.
  3. Document Changes While On-Site
As you move through your venue, document any issues you encounter. Take screenshots and annotate them whenever you spot POIs needing adjustment or missing entirely. If the app routes you through walls or exhibits odd routing behaviors, immediately start a screen recording to capture the issue – this helps GoodMaps support troubleshoot routing logic more effectively. Once captured, redo the route and record it again to show the complete behavior.
  4. Update Your Map Back at Your Desk
Use your screen recordings and screenshots to update the digital map in GoodMaps Studio, correcting POIs as needed and submitting revision tickets when appropriate to mapping.revisions@goodmaps.com.
  5. Share for Internal Stakeholder Testing
Distribute the updated map and app to other staff for review. Ask them to test during their daily routines and share feedback, such as POI changes or navigation issues. Request they capture routing problems with screen recordings or notes emailed back to you.
  6. Review and Finalize
Incorporate feedback from internal testing. Share any needed routing updates, added POIs, or other issues with mapping.revisions@goodmaps.com. Notify internal stakeholders that the map is finalized for wider use at launch.

Pro tip: Submit known construction or future changes early. This way the mapping team can schedule revisions to go live exactly when you need them.

Troubleshooting Common Issues #

  • Position not found: Move to a spot with distinctive features and try again. If localization takes more than 10 seconds after you move to another area, take a screen recording and report it to GoodMaps.
  • Odd routing or dead ends: Take a marked-up screenshot or screen recording and send it for correction.
  • Unresponsive app: Restart the route or check device permissions. If issues persist, delete and redownload the app.

Minor updates can be handled directly in Studio. Major routing corrections must go through mapping.revisions@goodmaps.com.

The App in Action: Accessibility for All #

GoodMaps is built for everyone – sighted, blind, low-vision, those with reduced mobility, or the hard of hearing. The app features:

  • Audio and haptic feedback
  • Augmented reality navigation
  • Step-free routing options

Turn on your ringer and follow on-screen and audio cues. For the best experience, stand still and pan your phone slowly during localization. Encourage your team to try all features, switching between “walking” and “step-free” modes to test every route.

Completing Validation: What Happens Next? #

After the initial onsite walkthrough and independent exploration, continue refining your map. Prioritize:

  • Accurate, consistent naming
  • Effective tags for search
  • Useful, concise descriptions

Once your team is satisfied, notify the mapping team so they can automate translation across supported languages. Review one last time in all key languages before going live.
