Advancing accessible rail travel across Victoria #
V/Line is enhancing the journey experience for passengers across regional Victoria through its partnership with GoodMaps. Together, we’re introducing accessible digital wayfinding to key regional stations – empowering people with disabilities to travel more confidently and independently.
From early planning to launch, V/Line’s accessibility and digital teams worked hand-in-hand with our team to design, test, and refine the experience within real rail environments. This close collaboration ensured that accessibility was not just added on – but built in from the start.
“Accessibility works best when it’s designed with real people and real journeys in mind,” says Jessika Ayling, Accessibility & Community Education Advisor at V/Line. “Our goal is to support passengers to travel with confidence and independence, not just meet compliance requirements. Working collaboratively allows us to test, learn, and improve – so the technology genuinely supports how people move through stations.”
Why it matters: #
- Accessibility embedded from planning through launch
- Collaborative testing and continuous improvement in real-world conditions
- A model for inclusive design in public transport
V/Line’s partnership with GoodMaps highlights how inclusive technology can transform everyday travel experiences – ensuring public transport works better for everyone.
